Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Department: Maintenance
Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

The incumbent’s position consists of but is not limited to the following operations: 

  • Provide technical support and perform complex maintenance to production functions to ensure the continuous and uninterrupted flow of work, and the efficient preventative maintenance for production equipment and systems in the plant.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs to lubrication systems (pumps, controls, lines, filters), conveyors, metal detection systems, HVAC and CO2 systems, PLC driven machinery and high speed packaging equipment.
  • Perform changes/adjustments to production equipment and systems within the established capabilities of each operation, monitoring machine functionality and safe operation.
  • Assist with the safe removal, installation, rebuild and/or set up of equipment, controls, systems, pumps, valves, and other related machinery, equipment and controls.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other material handling devices to move equipment and related components to needed machine operations:  Maintenance, Production Lines, Shipping & Receiving.
  • Review Material Safety Data Sheets are for all fluids/lubricants utilized in the plant and in the repair of production equipment and systems.
  • Perform data entry of work order completion into a database/software system as needed.
  • Track and report down time and repairs for plant machinery and equipment; create and distribute reports as outlined by Maintenance leadership.
  • Perform other requested functions related to plant operations as customer requirements and production demands dictate.
  • Partner with Maintenance Leadership, Preventative Maintenance Clerk and Purchasing to ensure adequate spare parts inventory levels are maintained to ensure availability when needed to maintain plant operations..
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisor and Technicians with work orders and various tasks related to maintaining accuracy with the preventative maintenance management system.
  • Coordinate with Preventative Maintenance Clerk to incorporate preventative maintenance task lists for equipment in the plant, and develop routines for machine preventative maintenance.


  • Education Equivalent to completion of High School
  • A.S. in Industrial Maintenance or other technical training/certification.
  • English Speaking or Bi-lingual
  • 5+  years of manufacturing maintenance experience, preferably in a technical machine repair function that includes machine preventative maintenance
  • Previous experience troubleshooting and repairing high speed packaging equipment and PLC driven machinery, preferably in a food production capacity
  • Advanced knowledge of machine lubrication systems and processes
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical and chemical hazards and Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Demonstrated competency in PLC programming and troubleshooting, HVAC, electrical controls and logic, boilers and related food production and packaging equipment
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with strong math, analytical and reasoning skills regarding machinery operation, and possess a good understanding of the relationships between materials, inventory and production requirements
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA general industry regulations on electrical safety (lockout/tagout), material handling, hazard communication, machine guarding, confined space, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks within established deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of machine parts and inventory control systems, with successful experience using preventative maintenance and work order management softwares
  • Detail oriented with good organization skills and proven ability to initiate priorities based on general guidelines
  • Intermediate level of knowledge and experience with Microsoft office products (Word, Excel,Outlook) and basic knowledge of database functionality, computerized preventative maintenance and work order management systems
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image

The incumbent must possess the physical ability to perform data entry, visual quality checks, audibly and visually detect out-of-tolerance conditions and/or mechanical problems and must possess vision correctable to a degree required to read preventative maintenance schedules, written instructions, processes and posted safety guidelines and plant policies.  Must be able to perform intermediate mathematical calculations as needed to ensure accuracy in recordkeeping.  Must be able to operate a personal computer and produce data that can be utilized to make logical decisions, safely operate foot and hand activated equipment and utilize material handling and devices as needed.  The above functions must be performed in limited access areas which are inherent to machine design, storage systems, hot and cold temperatures, and moderate noise levels.

The incumbent must possess strong hand-eye coordination and possess the physical ability to perform the following:  continuous standing and walking, frequent standing and walking, frequent lifting (weights up to 30 lbs.), occasional lifting (weights up to 50 lbs.), continuous pushing, pulling, twisting, stooping, reaching, grasping and repetitive movements, occasional climbing (stairs) and balancing.

Note: In relation to an 8-hour day:
               Occasional = 1 – 3 hours
               Frequent = 3– 5 hours
               Continuous = 5 – 8 hours

No hazardous substances are currently utilized in this position; however, the Director of R&D must be capable of handling them and may play a key role in evaluating substance storage or use in the facility.   The position requires working with known food allergens in a food production environment that may contain low levels of dust and/or slippery walking surfaces.
